Some Thoughts on Film as your Practice (I wonder if it’ll ever make perfect…) from the point of view of “Who Am I To Say?”, April 2025
If you are worried that something is not your story to tell, then don’t make it into a story. Lean into being wrong about something you set out to discover more on. Don’t try and rationalize the pulling towards something, just be pulled and let it teach you.
Stop asking if your art is going to revolutionize or do something that has never been done before. Bren Vienrich-Felling told me that in making experimental art, it’s you doing something in a way that you have never done before, and that’s what makes it compelling. Just do it and find out.
Everyone is trying to document things all the time, and you and I are not special for doing so. But we are certainly gentle for trying to be good in it. That’s all the comfort I can provide you.
